The town of Aldershot is situated on the very eastern edge of Hampshire. The town has had close connections with the British Army throughout its history and is now known as the ‘Home of the British Army’. In 1972, it experienced one of the worst mainland IRA attacks when seven civilian support staff were killed by a car bomb.
The A323 runs through the centre of the town which has a links to the M3 motorway to the north-west of the town. The railway station sits on the Alton line and offers two services per hour to London Waterloo. They are also similar services to Alton, Ascot and Guildford. London Heathrow Airport is the closest major airport to the town at around 29 miles away, offering a range of domestic and international flights.
