Cheltenham has attractive shopping streets and Regency architecture, which makes it a great place to find local jobs in retail. Two shopping centres in the town, Regency Arcade and Beechwood Centre offer a range of high street store, including Debenhams and BHS, whilst independent boutiques can be found on The Promenade and in Montpellier and The Suffolks. A new out of town centre, The Brewery, has a cinema and gym as well as retail outlets where local jobs might be found.

Catering and hospitality jobs are numerous, due to its plethora of upmarket restaurants, pubs and bars. There is even a Michelin-starred restaurant, Le Champignon Sauvage. Chefs, waiters and bar staff seeking jobs will find many exciting opportunities in this genteel town.

Cheltenham Borough Council offers a range of administrative jobs and there are similar vacancies at many large companies in the area. They include Chelsea Building Society, Endsleigh Insurance and Zurich Financial Services. The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) is also based here.

Jobs in electronics can be found in the area, particularly in the aerospace industry. GE Aviation, based in Bishops Cleeve and Messier Bugatti Dowty, in nearby Gloucester, are both big players on the electronics and aerospace engineering scene.

Manufacturing and light industry remains one of the mainstays of Cheltenham's economy and some of the bigger local employers include Spirax Sarco, which manufactures fluid control products and Renishaw, a sizeable engineering firm.
