Colchester, in Essex, has historic buildings, a strong military presence and is the oldest recorded town in Britain. Easily accessible from London, it is a prime commuter town and offers a variety of work for jobseekers, but there are many job opportunities nearby and without the commute.
The Ministry of Defence owns a large proportion of the land around the town and the town's military establishments provide both direct and indirect employment in the area. The local garrison is home to the 16th Air Assault Brigade and there is also a Military Corrective Training Centre.
