This developing university and market town is located in the Charnwood borough of Leicestershire. The town is the biggest settlement apart from Leicester in Leicestershire with a population of 57,600. In terms of transport, the rail network is of growing importance, as it is connected to London St Pancras International. With Eurostar International services this means that the town is almost directly connected to the continent. Junction 23 and 24 of the M1 connect it to other parts of the country by road.
The focal point of shopping in the area is the pedestrianized Market Place and Market Street, which has several original art deco buildings including the town’s current cinema. A large outdoor market takes place twice a week. Further and Higher education is a big factor in the makeup of the town, bringing thousands of students in every year.
