Perkins, the diesel engine manufacturer, has announced that it plans to create 200 new jobs in Peterborough. Celebrating 80 years of business, the company will offer temporary shopfloor workers permanent positions, whilst beginning the recruitment process for new apprentices and business trainees.
Perkins’ diesel engines are used in over 5,000 different applications, including those used for the construction, agriculture and general industries. Shipping the units throughout the world, Perkins has noted growing demand for its products over the past decade, leading it to increase the number of employment positions in Peterborough. Whilst 200 floor temporary shopfloor staff will be able to become full-time and permanent employees, an additional seven business trainees and 18 technical apprentices will be hired from September.
Operations manager, Jim Ritchie, said: “Perkins is a global business with a commitment to its base here in Peterborough. We are all very proud of the quality products we produce on a daily basis and of our people, who are committed to ensuring our customers’ exacting needs are met.” He added that the ability to create 200 permanent positions was a great indicator for the business itself and the manufacturing industry in the UK as a whole.
Perkins already has an established role in the local community, having employed apprentices for the past five decades. Many individuals have gone on to leading roles in the business community, largely due to their on-site training with Perkins. For keen individuals looking for manufacturing sector positions, the opportunities with Perkins will be ideal.
